Being her only follower, he swore to protect her with his life. Unfortunately, his goddess sacrificed herself to save his life. Consequently, he fell into despair and lost his reason to live. He decided to cast away his life by wandering aimlessly until he found his way to a village whose villagers greeted him with open arms. Realizing that he mustn't abandon the life his goddess gave him, he decided to devote himself to the village. Throughout his life, he still blamed himself for being unable to protect his goddess that he swore to love, and he never married or had kids of his own. After seeing Hestia, he was reminded of his beloved goddess. He then became over-protective of her. He told Bell his story so that Bell doesn't live life with the regrets he had.
